Registered Dietitians are your best bet for food and nutrition expertise

Do you know how the food you eat affects your health? The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics just released a position paper stating that dietary intervention positively impacts health outcomes across the life span. This means that nutrition advice is key for early prevention and management of obesity and many chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and some cancers that take years, even decades to develop.  Nutrition advice also helps you choose everyday good nutrition for yourself, your family and optimize athletic performance.  Here are some tips on how to take charge of your nutrition knowledge and eating habits.

Registered Dietitians (RD) are health professionals who are uniquely qualified to advise on diet, food and nutrition.  RDs provide leadership and support the nutritional health of the population through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support and rehabilitation.  Be sure to get your reliable nutrition information and care from a Registered Dietitian. To find out if your nutrition professional is a Registered Dietitian contact your provincial regulatory body or visit the Dietitians of Canada website at www.dietitians.ca

It’s exciting to see more Registered Dietitians reach Canadians. There is good news coming from the Ontario Ministry of Health about a program that funds the integration of Registered Dietitians into the practice of physician groups.  Ontarians can also ask their question by phone or on-line at EatRight Ontario, a free of charge dietitian service. See eatrightontario.ca  Across the country RDs provide reliable nutrition information in newspaper columns, on-line, at the grocery stores or in professional /medical offices.  Remember that good nutrition is an important component of healthy living, and RD’s are here to help.
